Let's Celebrate My New Film- Year One

I have a confession to make. The last few months I’ve been in a deep creative hole, working on my new documentary, Year One. A 30-min film about my first year of motherhood, identity, and overcoming postpartum depression.

Last month I set a goal in my heart (and on my Instagram Stories) to finish the film and submit it to Sundance.

Because my first film Dream, Girl had the incredible opportunity of premiering at The White House during the Obama administration, I’ve never done the festival circuit. But as a filmmaker, it’s always been a dream I’ve held close.

The past couple of weeks I’ve been editing every minute I can get. Early mornings right out of bed, during Ginny’s afternoon nap, and deep into these fading summer nights.

I’ve created this documentary in an intimate space. A tiny room with just my closest friends. I’m telling secrets, sharing uncomfortable truths, and in one scene I’m literally crying naked in a shower. This isn’t just a testimony of my first year of motherhood, it’s a memoir of my core beliefs, values, and experiences.

It’s scary to share something like this with the world, because I didn’t make it for the world. I made it to help me heal my postpartum depression. To name it, talk through it, and learn more about it.

And just a few days ago, after working on Year One for over a year and a half I finished the film and fulfilled my lifelong dream of submitting to Sundance. And now I want to celebrate with you!!

Join me Sept 16th at 8pm, for an Instagram Livestream event where my production partner and co-writer of the film Diana Matthews and I talk about what it took make this movie, how we hope it will change the way we view mental health in mother’s circles around the world, AND how you'll be able to watch the film.

Bring your questions about the filmmaking process, we'd love to share what we've learned along the way.

To join the conversation just follow my Instagram profile here and on Sept 16th at 8pm EST you’ll get a notification that I'm "live" and you'll be able to join the conversation by clicking the red circle icon at the top of my profile page.

Click here to download a calendar invite & if you haven’t seen it yet be sure to check out the trailer for Year One.

I can’t wait to see you there!
