Low Bridge, Everybody Down
Sal and I are in constant conversation about our future. Where are we going to live? Is it time for me to start a new job and back to work? And do we want to have any more kids?
While I know we could provide more for Virginia as an only child, one of the most profound and sacred relationships in my life has been with my brother Tyler.
Even though my mom jokes that I wasn’t interested in holding him as a baby, once I got used to the idea of him being around, Tyler became one of my best friends. Moving around every couple of years as an army brat T-bone and I would spend our summers together. We once got in trouble for getting along too well at the dinner table, speaking in our own language in attempts to ignore everyone else.
When he was in high school he got a video camera. This camera changed my life, and in the 7th grade I got a guitar. That guitar changed his. If he’s not performing at a local restaurant or pub he can be found strumming his guitar, playing his harmonica, or playing piano in our parent’s basement. Music surrounds him wherever he goes, and art has always been one of the threads that connect us. We are always talking about, dissecting, and sharing our creations. When I have a new idea I share it with Tyler and when he has one he shares it with me.
Which is why I’m so excited to be going back to Buffalo this week to see his one man show “Low Bridge, Everybody Down” about the history of Buffalo in song.
I’ve heard Tyler talk about this show for the last couple of months and knew I had to be in the room when it happened. I’ve gotten a glimpse of some of the stories he is going to share, heard a few of the songs, and can’t wait to see the show come together. If you are in the Buffalo area I’d love for you to join me for the show this Wednesday! Here are the details:
Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at 6 PM – 8 PM The Buffalo History Museum $10
If you can’t make it out, be sure to check out Tyer’s bandcamp page and listen to two of the folk songs he’ll be performing. You can also purchase the songs for just $2.
Hope to see you there, Buffalo! Go Bills!
